JOHN BLACKLEDGE

My work revolves around two differing themes. While both are mainly digital, they are heavily inspired by my love for traditional sketching and drawing. The first uses a limited color palette as a way to have the viewer focus on the core content of the piece and set a quiet or still mood. This makes any small area of vivid color stand out immediately and become a focal point. I use this in tandem with setting up each scene with a vague narrative that each viewer can formulate their own story from. On the other side of the spectrum, I enjoy creating character designs and snippets of action; it was a quality that carried over from my childhood. From horror-themed creatures to imposing robots wrapped in vivid scenes, it acts as a form of creative catharsis.
