My sculptural installations play off the concept of memory. By breaking down various aspects of memory; our relation to, types of memory and connections to; I have allowed myself to express memory in tangible forms we can experience. Incorporating a plethora of materials constructed under a set of basic rules and the inclusion of video, has allowed me to explore memories rich complexity. Sculpture allows people to become physically involved in the work, which I am drawn to. This was taken into consideration when deciding not only the scale of the pieces but how one can personally interact.
I challenge people to immerse themselves in my installations, not taking on the traditional role of viewer. I work heavily with the sub concepts of space and light. By projecting imagery onto and through my sculptures/installations, the pieces are given another layer of depth and dimensionality, where interaction can be formed. Making a personal experience communal, touching upon how memories can involve many. The inclusion of video ties together my passions, where I bring familiar worlds to life. Light and movement have aided in creating a blurred dreamscape. Connecting how when we remember a memory; we are remembering the last time we have thought about it. Adding necessary intensity, complex narratives are solidified. These choices create the beauty, intricacy and community involved within memory.
